"In Karesuando we make knives that are adapted to our nature with harsh, arctic climate, northern lights and midnight sun.We make genuine products that are shaped by centuries-old craft traditions and nature's raw materials. A craft beyond the ordinary. It is in our origin and our traditions that we derive our momentum and inspiration."
For those that live a life close to nature, most will recognise that a knife is the most important tool you can carry. Whatever the terrain or climate a really good knife becomes your constant companion and is with you throughout your endeavours.
So why choose an axe over a knife? Well, Karesuando's handmade hunting axe is designed around the many tasks that beset a hunter & meeting those challenges head-on. The ergonomics, weight & size offer such high levels of control that when combined with an amazingly sharp edge you'll wonder how you managed without one.
The axe is packaged in a sturdy presentation box lined with reindeer fur. Included is a diamond sharpener and cowhide leather holster. Please note, due to the natural materials used in construction each individual axe will possess subtle differences to the next. Also, the primary function of a hunters axe isn't as a tool for chopping wood.
Further Information
How to maintain your axe
Take care of your Karesuando axe and it will remain functional and pretty for a long time. It’s not hard to maintain our axes and you will only need the included diamond sharpener and some cooking oil.
Step 1 – Axe sharpening
A sharp axe is not only more efficient to use, it is also safer for you who holds it. A sha
rp axe cuts better and lower the risk to slip. All our axes come with a diamond sharpener. Use this to sharpen the edge of the axe. Start with sharpening one side of the edge and sharpen towards the same direction the whole time. When you have finished the first side, sharpen the other side the same way. You know when you are finished when you have a sharp axe perfect to work with!
Step 2 – Oiling the wooden axe handle
Not only the cutting edge needs to be maintained to keep its functionality and looks, also the handle of the axe needs some care. The best way to do so is rubbing the wood with cooking oil. If you do not like strong scents, we recommend you use neutral cooking oil such as canola oil. Put some oil on a paper towel and rub the handle until you notice that the wood starts absorbing the oil. Work from one side of the handle to the other. Afterwards you can let the axe rest for a while, so the wood gets the chance to absorb the oil properly.
