The blade is made of c.4mm thick Böhler K720 high carbon tool steel, making the blade extremely durable with heavy use such as log-splitting, or so called "batoning", without making the knife too heavy or uncomfortable to carry. The knife has a Scandinavian grind to make it very robust at the same time easy to carve wood with and easy to sharpen on a small flat whetstone/sharpener in the forest. The knife is a really good all-round tool for field use.
Fire was an essential tool in human development, and it remains essential today. Across the world, we are all culturally connected to fire, and being able to make fire is still an important skill. This is why this knife is supplied with a Casstrom Fire Striker with matching handle. The exposed steel is approximately 6 cm or 2.35" and 9.5mm in diameter. The total length is approximately 13cm. Handle made from Curly Birch. The Fire Striker will withstand a lifetime of 12,000+ strikes.
The Woodsman knife and fire striker is supplied with a durable brown leather sheath with loop for the fire strike.
This steel also has a very fine structure making it easy to sharpen and achieve a razor sharp edge with. Whilst easy to sharpen, the low chromium content means it will tarnish if left wet and it must therefore be wiped after use and protected by oil or wax when put away for storage if you want to avoid tarnish building up.
